Barwon Health Patient Transport: Club was presented with a framed certificate to acknowledge our donation of $3000 to this cause. This joint project has raised $24500 and will enable 3 more vehicles with Rotary badging to be provided.
Our guest speaker this week was Gary Jennings from Consumer Affairs: Justice and Regulation. He gave an informative talk on scams, giving a series of anecdotes to which the immediate thought was “ how can anyone be so stupid’ . But Gary pointed out that the scammers use grooming techniques, extortion, threats, fraud etc and they do target the elderly! Huge amounts of money are being lost to scammers every year. Gary’s message – don’t engage with potential scammers and don’t be ashamed to report a scam if somehow you become involved. Gary left with us a very useful booklet – The Little Black Book of Scams. I have sufficient for those who were unable to hear Gary’s speech.
