General Update
A new GWP President for the new year.
The President's baton (banner in this case!) has been handed over from Greg Cook to Paul Desbrowe-Annear for the
2nd half of this term. Paul is looking forward to the year and has lots of ideas to surprise you with.

Big thanks to Greg for all the hard work and coordination in the first term and for finishing the year off as Santa at our annual 'Aged Care Christmas visits'.  Looks exhausted but happy. Thanks Greg - great job on both accounts.

Oberon South Primary School Breakfast Program.
Last year we decided to keep the breakfast program running at Oberon South Primary School. We have received very positive feedback that our efforts and energy are make a huge difference to the children.  So, to all those who volunteered their time in 2018 and to those who would like to give it a go - please contact David Carlyle to be placed on the roster.  We need your help - so if you can - please consider contributing your time to this program.

Rotary Grants Qualifying Seminar - Geelong Feb 2019
The seminar will be on Sunday 10 February 2019 and hosted by the Rotary Club of Geelong. The venue will be the Geelong RSL, 50 Barwon Heads Road, Belmont and the training will commence at 10 am with a break for lunch and should finish about 3 pm. There is free parking all day.

The registration cost is $25 per Rotarian. There will be Tea/coffee and cake all day. Finger food sandwiches and hot platters for lunch. GWP Rotary Club will refund our members registrations.
Please contact Lesley Goode if you are interested.

This is really important to our club. We need to be more savvy about how to link into the Rotary Grants program. We need members to qualify for the grants to be open to us. No qualified members = No grants. So please consider attending with Lesley in Geelong (easy) 10 Feb.

Victoria Police Mental Health Unit Fundraiser. 'Those left behind'

See email from Peter Codd 17 Jan 19 and "Those left behind Facebook site) https://www.facebook.com/thoseleftbehindcause/ for more details.

Donna's aim is to walk 3000 kms around Victoria to draw attention to those people left behind after such tragic circumstances. Along the way she will be talking to groups of people, including the Police Officers to try to bring awareness to the life-long damage suicide causes to those left behind. Some events coming up are:

Our luncheon @ Truffleduck on the 22nd February 2019 at midday until 2pm. Tickets can be purchased from: https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=444282&

More Than Opera concert – Melbourne, March 2019 – further details coming soon.

If you can sponsor the walk, please feel free to contact Donna by return email or call her on 0452 234 563. Any sponsorship will have their logo placed on the motor home. If you can donate to the cause, you can go to the gofundmepage page: https://www.gofundme.com/jh62tv-those-left-behind

For more information about the walk and the route Donna is taking to the facebook page above. If you can spend time driving the motor home for Donna, or walking beside to support her -please contact Donna on the above number. Volunteers are still needed between the 18th March, through to the 17th April.

This sounds like a wonderful cause to create awareness of mental illness in the community and to focus on the people who are left behind.  Perhaps GWP Rotary club could be involved in some small way.  Perhaps a guest speaker, raffle and maybe some volunteers to walk with Donna when she is in the area. Please talk to Jordy or Don if are interested or would like be involved.

Joint Meeting of Torquay and Grovedale Waurn Ponds Rotary clubs.

Last Wednesday we had a terrific outside meeting with our friends from the Torquay RC. Everyone had a good night and lots of fundraising ideas were discussed - including Torquay offering us space at the Motorshow 10 Feb. One idea for the future was for GWP to run a Antique Road Show in Torquay  at the same time as the Motorshow. There are plenty of people in town for the Motorshow and this would give them something else to do.  Just a thought . Maybe next year... but definitely worth thinking about.

What an effort. - great start to the BBQ year!
Thanks to everyone who helped out at the last Bunnings BBQ  (10 Jan) - we made a grand total of $991.00 - Well done.  This will go a long way to helping all the projects we are supporting this year.

What's this whoozin????
'whoozin'  is an app that enables us to collect RSVP's to events and meetings in a very easy accessible way. It provides a report for simple administration of these events.
Jordy will be sending you whoozin invites via email.
It is important to know that you have to reply to whoozin to be included in the catering numbers for the meeting or event being advertised.  You are not automatically counted in - you have to reply.  Please respond to whoozin invites as quickly as possible and no later than the Tuesday before the event.  If you do not have access to email - please respond to Rice Village in the usual way.  If you have any questions about whoozin please discuss with Jordy or Cookie.

Meeting Attendance.
If you are unable to access 'whoozin' please remember to inform  RICE VILLAGE  by Tuesday prior to the meeting if not attending to stop food waste and the unnecessary effort our  volunteers. Check blue book for the number or use the app!
