Weekly Report 8th June
Holidays, illness and a birthday all came together once again to reduce our attendance last night, but it was an enjoyable and interesting evening.
Happy Birthday Val!
Great news – both Graham Perkins and Trish Carlyle are making good progress and are home recuperating.
Tonight our guest speaker was an inspirational young Mum – Kate Kent. Kate is one of the founders of Geelong Mums and has been its General Manager for 2 years. Geelong Mums is a not-for-profit organisation which provides emergency material aid to parents in need. In the 3 years of operation, Geelong Mums has grown from 5 volunteers working from a back yard shed to 350 volunteers working in a warehouse in Sth Geelong. Geelong Mums collects donated children’s clothing (new born to 12 years) and baby equipment eg cots, car seats. Volunteers sort the goods and prepare packs of clothes eg a year’s supply of clothing for a 3 yr old girl. All clothing packs and goods are distributed through local welfare agencies and this year they have provided support to 1500 families handing out 2500 bags of clothing, nappies and equipment.
Geelong Mums would be pleased to receive donations – please wash and iron clothing; cots, car seats etc must meet Australian Safety Standards. Check the website or Facebook for further information.
Congratulations David Wilson! David was presented with his 25 year, long service award and we thank him for the huge contribution he has made to this Club and in the service of Rotary.
Thank you to Graeme Saddington, Jan and Ken who have conducted mock interviews at Geelong Lutheran College over the last 3 days.
Thank you also to Pam and Kim Cooke who helped out at Christchurch meals program last Monday evening.

Ride the Bellarine: At the RC of Ocean Grove meeting on 31st May, Greg and Peter were recognised for their contributions to the Ride the Bellarine – End Polio Now project – Greg as a sponsor and Peter as one of the highest fundraisers. It was good to meet many other Rotarians from participating Clubs and to hear Paraolympian skier Mitchell Gourley speak.

Volunteer Patient Transport Service – Ineke and I attended the function provided by Barwon Health Volunteer Services to acknowledge Rotary’s $24500 donation. This project is very much a win-win situation - there will be 3 more patient transport vehicles on the road, all with Rotary badging. The function was one of the (many) occasions which make you feel proud to be a Rotarian for this project is really ‘doing good in the world’.
Please note the joint Board meeting on Wednesday 22nd June – for Board members 2015 – 2017!
Have a good week,.
