It was lovely to welcome our guest speaker – Josephine Barnes from Samaritan House, guests Carlie and Sienna and to welcome back David Carlyle and Don following their extended absences.
Since David was back (and pleasingly, so mobile) Paul was able to present him with his 25 year service certificate and PHF Sapphire. Congratulations David and thank you for your huge contribution to the Club.
Josephine was an entertaining speaker and passionate about her role at Samaritan House. It was apparent that she ‘is a gift to the world’ – but especially Geelong. Samaritan House provides crisis accommodation for men and operates entirely on donations from the local community and voluntary workers.
We had received a letter from Ray Robilliard who had completed his first make-up enroute to Southport and was most appreciative of the bulletin which had been mailed to him. I do hope the weather improves for him.
An email from Binod indicated that life in Nepal is still difficult with aftershocks occurring and the monsoon causing landslides. Although progress on the Huwas school water project has been halted due to the monsoon, they have already completed most of the pipeline, the water storage tank and taps. The remainder of the pipeline and the toilet building will be finished after the monsoon and they expect to complete the project on time.
Thelma has arranged a dinner for members, partners and friends on Wednesday 19th August, 6.30pm at La Campagnola, 272 Shannon Ave, Newtown.

Ok, I have come up with something good!
There will be 4 parts
1, starter on arrival : garlic and or herb focaccia
2, main : to be ordered individually" A la Carte" from our pizzeria menu
3, Dessert: House made Artisan Gelato
4, Caffe' : All types from our barista e.g latte, cappuccino etc Includes tea
I am happy to do this for $25 per person BUT you pay me $21 and $4 can go to a Rotary affiliated charity!
This will be a social event (replacing the originally planned club assembly and Board, since most of the Board will have flown north!) – but it should be a fun night for those of us who are still in Geelong. Please either record your attendance on the sheet or let Thelma know if you are coming.
