Rotary Club of Grovedale President - Lesley Goode

From the President: August 12th
Last week I forecast a special night this week – and yes it was!
Paul Desbrowe-Annear and Bob (representing the Friends of Rice Village) presented the ELK cushion to Anna from Rice Village. Anna was most appreciative and said that it will be used frequently  - eg one lady insists on kneeling to say her prayers but is often unable to get up again!. Paul thanked Vicki for arranging the purchase of the cushion at a substantial discount.
We have received $800 from the District funded Club Strengthening Public Relations Grants. That money is to be spent on producing new flyers/cards and Facebook boosting.
Rotary Friendship Exchange – a group of 6 couples from D2981 India is coming to our District in March or April 2016. Can we host – a Committee/Board discussion?
Would you like to join a RFE team to D2981 India in February 2016? If interested contact gail@portlandseaview.com.au.
Please read the Weekly Bulletin which I forwarded to all members last week – exciting news about Polio and Presidential Conferences. Also read the DG’s Newsletter especially the article on our Peace Scholar – Lucinda Garrido.
Thanks this week to Paul, Rhonda, Trish, and Pam for helping with the RLI catering last Saturday. Thanks also Ken, Paul, Bill, Colin and Joe for their help at the interest meeting for the new Grovedale-Marshall Probus Club, 13th August. Although the number in attendance was small, they were keen to learn about Probus and proceed to the next stage in forming the Club.
Our guest speaker was PDG Cathy Roth who spoke on “Does planning mean change?” Pam kindly took comprehensive notes which follow. Cathy as always demonstrated her immense passion for Rotary and the upshot of her thought provoking presentation was that all members present committed to Club visioning (or planning). This will require a lengthy brain storming, workshop later in the year – but we’ll plan to make a pleasurable time. For now, we each need to contemplate what would be our dream for our Club in 5 years’ time.
Have a good weeksmiley

Bill reminded us about the upcoming Probus interest meeting on the 13/8/2015 at Grovedale Community Centre Heyers Road. He also reminded us of the up coming working bees at Sandys on the 29/8 and Graham Thompson's on the 5/9/2015. Bill will be away but has put in the capable hands of PDA and DC. Bill also mentioned about the bowel scan and post code 3216 had the highest take up and had 17 positive readings.

Paul has 5 entertainment books left. He also advised that the digital subscription is available on 4 devices. If we sell all books club will raise over $400. Paul received a few thank you letters for donations to the Andrew Love Cancer Centre and from Binod, both letters thanking the club for our generous donations.

David C thanked Don and Lindy and Lindsay who were going to assist with cycling.

Bob reminded us about Aldi BBQ this Saturday the 15/8/2015. Don't forget your time.

Ken reminded us that our subs are now due $225 each. Ken also advises 2 Probus members will be at Probus info meeting to assist with any questions.

Joe advised he is unable to attend BBQ as he is heading to Wagga Wagga for his grand sons passing out parade.

Peter Codd is back and advised received a certificate for our assistance with the Red Shield Appeal and the Salvos raised about $36000 which was above target.

Barry D’Altera.    "Bazza"

Barry spoke about his son Grant who was born with Syringomyelia (a cyst in the middle of his spinal cord).

Barry spoke in detail of his passion to assist the Neurology Department at the Royal Children's, this is where Grant has undergone many operations.

Barry's target is to raise $5000 for the department and he currently has raised $2800 and he hopes to get to his target by shaving off his mo that he has been growing and manicuring over the last 21 years.

We wish Barry, his son Grant and family all the best and we hope as a Rotary Club we maybe able to assist in reaching his target of $5000 for the RCH Neurology.

Donations can be made to the Bendigo Bank

Account Name The Mo is Gonna Go
BSB 633000 Account number 154650147.

Maybe as individuals within the club we can donate an amount each and the club could consider matching this .

Jan thanked Barry and then Lesley closed the meeting.

Two interesting facts!

Barry works for Bill T and David C is related to Barry!
